The race to the 2022 African Movie Academy Awards has officially begun as the
organizers have called on African filmmakers to submit their films for consideration.
After calls for the entry submissions in January, the academy has extended the entry submission till June 15, 2022.
In a statement sent to Saturday Beats, the organisers called on filmmakers to
submit their films to vie for nominations in about 30 categories.
The founder of the awards platform, Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, said, “We are now accepting submissions for the 18th Africa Movie Academy Awards. The Africa Film Academy invites filmmakers to submit their feature, short, animation and documentary works for consideration in nearly 30 film categories of the awards.”
The AMA team also stressed that submission of films was strictly open to films produced within the past year.
The statement added, “This submission is officially open to only films produced and released between May 1, 2021, and April 31, 2022. All entries for the 18th AMAAs will be made via Filmfreeway. We will not accept any film that exceeds the 120-minute run as a feature, or a short film that is longer than 40 minutes.”
Recall that the 17th edition of the awards ceremony was held at Marriott Hotels, Ikeja, Lagos, on Sunday, November 28, 2021. At the event, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, called on Africans across the globe to work together to boost the creative industry.
He added that the creative sector had been very instrumental to the growth of the state and had contributed immensely to the entire African continent through impressive and captivating storylines portrayed on screen.
