It can be recalled that on Thursday, Deborah, a Christian student at the Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, was stoned, beaten and burnt to death by some of her colleagues over alleged blasphemy. She’s said to have insulted Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in a voice note that was sent to their class group chat.
However, by Thursday evening, the police confirmed that at least two people had been arrested over the killing of the female student.
In light of this, the youths took to the streets and called on the state government as well as security agencies to release those arrested in connection with the killing as a matter of urgency.
It was gathered that the protest started at the roundabout of Zabira mall and they marched through Gao-nama onwards flyover within the state metropolis.
The protesting youths were spotted waving placards and yelling “Allahu Akbar,” which translates to “God is Great.”
Meanwhile, Deborah Samuel, the 200-level student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto state, who was gruesomely murdered on Thursday May 12, was laid to rest amidst tears yesterday May 14.
