The inaugural edition of the National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP media workshop which held last Wednesday has been acclaimed by members of the 4th estate as a great initiative to educate mediamen on best practices on the job, NAOSNP can report. The workshop also offered a fantastic platform to clamor for press freedom as well as build a good working relationship between security agencies and journalists in Nigeria.
A frontline journalist, Mr Oba Adeoye who spoke at the workshop posited that the act of journalism goes beyond writing or broadcasting to inform, educate and entertain the public, but also to set agenda for the general public. He also frowned at the idea of reducing journalism to only copy and paste, where journalists, especially new media journalists, depend on others to beef up their platform. He called on Journalists to always create agenda for themselves, and create distinct pattern of writing, especially for online platforms. He admonished online writers not to stick to reduced system of writing to engage readers while also leveraging on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Jetpack, for guide.
The Founder of Journalism NG and former News Director at LTV 8, Adeoye also used the opportunity to advise pressmen on the business of journalism. NAOSNP reliably report that he told practitioners to get the Google Assent, Affiliate Marketing and Advertorials, which are articles purposely for advertising. ‘They are placed sometimes in between stories’, he noted.
In his welcome address, President of the National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP, Samson Oki pointed out that the workshop was built upon the fact that reporting security issues is a critical aspect of journalism that required tutorial and patriotism. This, he believe will greatly help media practitioners to sharpen their skill in the act of security reporting.
Other participants at the workshop encouraged media practitioners to continue to uphold the truth despite the prevailing challenges that the gentlemen in the noble profession are faced with. They were also tasked on protecting national interest and security even as 2023 elections approach.
