Men of the Nigeria Police Force have, on Wednesday, stormed the gate of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State, over a planned protest by the students of the institution against a recent fee hike.
The PUNCH had reported on May 6 that the Rector of the institution, Dr. John Adekolawole, confirmed an increment in fees to our correspondent in a telephone conversation. A former student of the school, Adejayan Gbenga, had also alleged being threatened to be arrested by the school’s management for criticising the fee hike.
The security officials with their vans stormed the institution as a group of students under the aegis of ‘FPE Students Defender’ in conjunction with ‘Concerned Nigerian Students’ had slated a protest to hold at the gate of the institution on Wednesday.
Sources also said that some of the students had allegedly been arrested. Efforts to reach the Osun State Public Relations Officer, SP Opalola Olawoyin, for comments, proved abortive as she had not responded to calls.
