Gunmen on Tuesday attacked the family house of the Chairman of Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Mr Steve Orogwu, killing three of his relatives.
PUNCH Metro gathered the assailants also killed a security guard and burnt down Orugwu’s family house.
It was learnt that the council boss was not at home when the gunmen struck.
A reliable source told our correspondent that the hoodlums invaded the chairman’s home in Ekpaomaka late on Tuesday night.
Orogwu confirmed the incident to journalists on Wednesday.
He said, “They attacked my family compound at Ikwo at night and killed my elder brother, two of his sons and a security guard.”
He explained that the gunmen also set ablaze the house in the compound.
The victims’ corpses were reportedly deposited in a mortuary in Abakaliki, the state capital.
The reason for the attack could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Loveth Odah, said she was away on an official assignment and could not react.
Meanwhile, the Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, on Wednesday, condemned the killing, describing it as “inhuman, vicious and barbaric.”
While commiserating with the bereaved family, the governor, in a statement, called on security agencies to immediately swing into action, unravel those behind the act and bring them to justice.
