A former House of Representatives member, Hon. Isah Mohammed Ashiru, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the 2023 governorship election in Kaduna state.
Ashiru, a former House Committee Chairman on Appropriation, polled 414 votes to defeat other contestants including a former Director-General of the National Emergency Agency, Sani Sidi, with 260, a former Governor of the state, Ramallan Yero, with 28, Sani Abbas 15, Haruna Saeed 11 and former lawmaker, Shehu Sani with 2 while invalid votes were 30
The Returning Officer and a former Plateau State Chairman of the party, Chief Raymond Dabo, who announced the result declared, Ashiru, who was also the party’s flag bearer in the 2019 Governorship election in the state, winner, having scored the highest votes.
Meanwhile, Sani, who represented Kaduna Central during the 8th National Assembly, congratulated Ashiru for clinching the party’s ticket ahead of the 2023 poll.
In a tweet on his verified Twitter handle, the former lawmaker tweeted, “The Kaduna PDP Governorship primaries has been concluded. I lost and Honourable Isah Ashiru won.
“I wish to congratulate him. Two Delegates voted for me without giving them a dime; unfortunately, I don’t know who they are so that I can appreciate these clean votes. We look forward.”
The primary which was conducted across the country on Wednesday lasted until the early hours on Thursday.
