Fubara, who hails from the riverine Opobo-Nkoro Local Government Area, polled 721 votes to defeat 15 other aspirants.
Other contestants, Kamalu Isaac scored 86, George Kelly 37, Danagogo Tammy 36, West Morgan got four votes, Briggs David four, Felix Obuah two votes and eight void votes.
The Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Prof. Walter Mbotu, declared Fubara the winner of the primary election.
However, and as expected, his endorsement by the governor was not without controversies as he is alleged to be on “wanted list” of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
The anti-graft agency recently declared him and 58 others for N435 billion fraud.
The EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, who confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday, said the Account General and 58 other persons, including four other officials of the Rivers State government are wanted by the commission for alleged fræud, criminal conspiracy, money laundering, misappropriation of public funds, and abuse of office.
The EFCC urged members of the public to come forward with information that would lead to the arrest of the suspects.
