The previous editions took place in January/February 2021 in Cameroon and saw Morocco crowned champions.
Nigeria finished runners-up at the 2018 edition after losing 4-0 to Morocco in the final. Prior to then, they had placed third at the inaugural edition in 2014 in South Africa.
