The Department of Performing Arts and Film Studies of Lead City University, Ibadan, Oyo State, has honoured arts and culture enthusiast and Iyalaje Oodua, Toyin Kolade, for her ‘contribution to the revitalisation, promotion and upholding of African culture and tradition’.
At a ceremony to present the award of excellence to her, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof Kabiru Adeyemo, noted that the university was proud to associate with her.
The Head of department, Performing Arts and Film Studies, Dr Anjola Robbin, described Kolade as ‘an advocate for culture who is also well respected. “Bestowing such honour on her on behalf of the Performing Arts department and the institution is a big privilege,” she said.
While receiving the award, Kolade said, “I appreciate the institution for finding me worthy of this great honour. It is a clarion call for me to do more in preserving our rich culture. I am dedicating this award to my husband, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and my children for their consistent support in making me achieve my dreams as a cultural ambassador. I won’t relent. I will keep doing my best to ensure we put out arts, culture and tradition on the world map.”
