The Vice President, Association of Resident Doctors, University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Dr Margaret Erhunmwunsee, on Friday, said menstruation was a physiological process and not a taboo.
She said this while speaking with over 150 female teenagers of the Itam Community Secondary School, Obong Itam, Itu Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, on menstrual hygiene.
The lecture was part of the activities marking the World Menstrual Hygiene Day, which takes place every May 28 every year.
Erhunmwunsee, who was in the company of other members of the association gave some gifts to the student and addressed them about menstrual hygiene.
Also speaking, a Senior Registrar, Department of Paediatry, UUTH, Dr Ifunanya Ebi-Ekpi, drilled the students on the menstrual cycle, proper use of sanitary pads and its disposal and the menstrual hygiene with various materials that are used during the monthly menstruation.
