The United Nations Population Fund, in conjunction with the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development, has organised peer education training for boys on adolescent sexual reproductive health, rape, sexual/domestic violence and personal development.
According to a statement on Tuesday by Gabriel Isiwele for the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, the exercise was part of efforts to tackle social vices prevalent in the society and ensure healthy development among young people
The two-day programme held at Lagos Chamber for Council and Industry, Alausa, Ikeja.
Delivering his welcome address, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Olugbenga Ayoola Aina, said, “Young people are tomorrow’s parents. The reproductive and sexual health decision they make today will affect the health and wellbeing of their communities and countries for decades to come.”
He added, “Sexual violence occurs everywhere and across all segments of society. A child may be subjected to sexual abuse or exploitation at home, school or in their community while the widespread use of digital techniques can also put children at risk.”
