Veteran actor, lawyer and politician, Kanayo Kanayo, attracted many notable figures to the Muson Centre Onikan, Lagos, on Sunday, May 29, 2022, when he celebrated his 60th birthday.
Appreciating God for sparing his life to witness the day, the actor thanked his family and friends for the support they had given him over the years.
Asked what the next step was for him, he said, “It is a marriage of law and entertainment. One of the reasons I read Law was to be able to marry law and entertainment, and I think I have set out on a good pace. In the next month or two, there is going to be a television series, titled, ‘The People’s Lawyer’. It is going to keep Nigerians glued to their television set, just like ‘Professor Johnbull (on which he played the lead role) for the next five to 15 years, I can wager a bet on that.
“There are many lawyers in the country but not all of them are in the entertainment industry. I have a twin advantage of being in the entertainment industry and being a lawyer.
“Also, within one year, I wrote and published a book titled, ‘The Testator’. It is a contribution to the body of knowledge. We are trying to revive the reading culture of Nigerians.”
The actor also seized the opportunity of the birthday celebration to launch a foundation called, ‘The Kanayo O Kanayo Foundation’.
Highlights of the event included the two ‘triumphant’ entries of the birthday boy, clad in all-white attire. In his first ‘appearance’, Kanayo paired his outfit with a bowler hat, while the second time, he went for a traditional red cap worn by chiefs in Igboland.
He was later joined by his children on stage to cut the birthday cake in a session anchored by popular comedian, Ayo Makun, aka AY.
Notable guests at the event include a presidential aspirant Kingsley Moghalu; a former Chief Executive Officer of Transnational Corporation and Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant in the last Anambra State election, Valentine Ozigbo; entrepreneur and socialite, Obinna Oyiegbu, aka Obi Cubana; Big Brother Naija winner, Hazel Onou aka Whitemoney; veteran singer, Zaaki Azzay; actor, Victor Osuagwu; and comedian, Stanley Chibunna, aka Funny Bone.
