The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) governors have reportedly slashed to three the list of the party’s proposed presidential aspirants.
GISTLOVER recalls that the APC had earlier screened and cleared 23 aspirants to contest for the party‘s presidential ticket in the 2023.
However, in the early hour of today amidst controversies at the party’s presidential primary and convention, the governors proposed a five-man list of aspirants to President Muhammadu Buhari to consider for consensus.
Those initially proposed were Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu; Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; Rotimi Amaechi; Governor Kayode Fayemi and Governor Dave Umahi.
Subsequently, the governors pruned the list to three aspirants with Tinubu, Osibanjo and Amaechi making the proposed list.
The proposal is not a binding decision but just a suggestion to President Buhari who has requested them to assist in pruning down the 23 aspirants for consensus.
Current happenings at the APC’s convention has, however, stirred lamentations as other aspirants, particularly Governor Kayode Fayemi and Governor Yahaya Bello are kicking, saying that they are still in the race.
