An angry mob on Tuesday set ablaze a suspected cultist popularly called Tempo, who was alleged to have terrorised some residents in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
He was reportedly set ablaze by the mob after a failed robbery at a popular boutique located along Barracks Road, Uyo, while members of his gang escaped.
PUNCH Metro gathered that he was dismembered before being set ablaze on Effiong Udo Akpan Street, close to the boutique.
An eyewitness, Emmanuel Ekong, said, “We were awoken by the shout of ‘thief, thief’ this morning around 4.30am at 2, Effiong Udo Akpan Street. So, we immediately rallied the youth, who cooperated and stormed the compound.
“While his gang fled, he was unlucky. The youth administered instant judgment on him. The boys chained his legs, cut off some charms from his waist and cut his body. Afterwards, they poured petrol on him and lit him up.”
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Odiko Macdon, vowed that the command would not hesitate to prosecute residents in the habit of lynching criminal suspects.
