Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro has been handed a boost ahead of Monday’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sao Tome with the return of Lorient midfielder Innocent Bonke but Watford defender William Ekong has been ruled out of the encounter, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Bonke suffered a knock in the Eagles’ 2-1 loss to Mexico on May 29, missing their encounters against Ecuador and Sierra Leone respectively.
The former Malmo midfielder however joined team training for the first time on Saturday which put him in the frame to feature against Sao Tome and Principe.
Troost-Ekong on his part has however been ruled out of the game due to muscle injury. The 28-year-old picked up the injury in the 80th minute of the 2-1 win against the Leone Stars
The centre-back flew back to London on Friday for further checks on the injury top officials revealed.
Leganes defender Kenneth Omeruo is expected to be Troost-Ekong’s replacement for the game against Sao Tome after he came in for him against Sierra Leone.
The Eagles arrived Marrakech, Morocco on Saturday for the game on a chartered flight from Abuja.
They will return to the country Tuesday.
