A rainstorm which began on Saturday and lasted till Sunday has reportedly claimed three lives in the Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that several houses either collapsed or had their roofs blown off by the rainstorm.
Residents said the rainstorm affected many communities in the council, although Kankara, Nasarawa, and Matsiga were mostly affected.
It was learnt that while the rainstorm claimed one life in Nasarawa community, two lives were lost in Matsiga.
Residents further revealed that one of the victims died when the walls of her room collapsed on her.
The victim, a woman, was buried on Sunday according to Islamic rites.
A spokesperson for Kankara LGA, Abdulkarim Sani, confirmed the incident on Sunday.
He revealed that a worker with the information unit of the council, Surajo Zabo, lost his wife during the rainstorm.
Sani said, “The rainstorm affected many communities. The actual number of casualties, including those injured, has not been determined.”
Officials of the State Emergency Management Agency had yet to respond to inquiries on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
The spokesperson for the Katsina State Police Command, SP Gambo Isah, could not be reached for comments as of press time.
