Youths from the North-East, on Monday, appealed to the leadership of the All Progressive Congress to consider zoning the running mate of the presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to any of the states in their region.
The youths argued that the move was necessary if the APC was serious about its plan to neutralise the threat and incursion of the Peoples Democratic Party in the North-East.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Chairman of the North-East APC Youth Stakeholders Forum, Haruna Sardauna, on Monday.
The statement stressed that the forum was not interested in whether the would-be running mate turned out to be a Christian or Muslim, as long as he was chosen from any of the states in the North-East.
“While applauding the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and Nigerians for recognising June 12 as the official Democracy Day, we appeal for the special consideration of the North-East zone for the position of the Vice presidential candidate of the APC in the 2023 general election.
“Zoning the position of the Vice President to the North-East, therefore, will neutralise the PDP presidential candidate and mobilise massive support from the region and other zones to ensure the victory of Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu.
“The North-East region had consistently given block votes to the APC and supported candidates from the other region, right from its inception,” the statement partly said.
