Obi, the Labour Party (LP) Presidential flag bearer in the 2023 election, had on Tuesday, via his official Twitter handle, announced the three-day trip to the North African nation.
“I just departed for Egypt on a 3-day visit as part of my detailed study of comparable countries to Nigeria. In Egypt, I am expected to understudy, among others, the Egyptian Power Sector, Education, Planning and Finance Sectors”. He tweeted.
While many of Peter Obi’s supporters praised him for the trip and said it was part of his purposeful effort to bring change to the Nigerian system in all quarters, others chastised him and said he shouldn’t have left the country at this time.
Fellow presidential aspirant, Omoyele Sowore also threw jabs at Peter Obi for travelling to Egypt to understudy their systems.
Sowore who is also vying for the presidential seat under the African Action Congress (AAC) tackled Peter Obi for only just taking the trip 9 months to the presidential election.
According to him, Peter was a two-time governor of Anambra state yet he’s just seeking to study the working systems of a foreign country.
Reacting to the controversy, filmmaker Umoren, in a tweet, stated that he has seen more takes on Obi’s travel itinerary than the ones President Muhammadu Buhari has taken.
“I’ve seen more takes on Peter Obi’s travel itinerary than on any of the numerous ones Buhari took. One of them is the President”, he tweeted.
