The new Chairman of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Mowe & District Society, Mr. Omoniyi Osunsanya, has said the district will attract youths in secondary schools, tertiary institutions, and graduates to the accounting profession.
He said this while giving his acceptance speech during his investiture as the fifth chairman of the district in Ogun State on Saturday.
“We will partner with tuition providers to recruit secondary school students into the Accounting Technicians Scheme West Africa programme as well as students and graduates of tertiary institutions into the path of the professional examination, leading to them becoming chartered accountants,” he said.
As the first chairman to commence the one-year tenure in line with the newly-approved bye-law for district societies by the ICAN council, he said he was conscious of the limited time and would work round the clock to achieve his vision for the district with the support of the executive committees and members of the district.
He also said he would continue from where the immediate past chairman left.
Speaking more on his plans, he said, “Our members remain my priority and I will do everything within my powers to serve them by elevating the standards handed over to me.”
The new chairman said the district building project was another priority on the list of projects for his administration.
The President, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Tijjani Isa, congratulated Osunsanya and the new executive team of the district.
He said ICAN districts were closest to the grassroots and they were instrumental in taking the brilliant initiatives of the institute to every part of the country.
Isa said, “I encourage the new leaders to develop strategies for sustaining the district admirable position in the institute. Leading an ICAN district society is both a privilege and sacrifice.
“It is a privilege as it affords members of the executive the opportunity to positively impact the accounting profession, not only at the district level, but at the national level.”
