In a statement, the spokesperson of the command, SP Mohammed Shehu, said the police in collaboration with other security agents engaged the bandits in a heavy gun battle that lasted for over four hours, and as a result, one bandit was injured and his AK 47 rifle was recovered.
Shehu said, “On June 19, 2022, at about 0300Hrs, Police Tactical Operatives deployed to Gummi/Bukkuyum area received a distress call that bandits on motorcycles invaded Saran Gamawa and neighbouring Unguwar Mata villages with aims to kill and abduct innocent members of the communities.”
“The police in collaboration with the vigilante of the affected villages mobilised forces and engaged the bandits in an extensive gun battle that lasted for hours.”
“As a result, one of the bandits was fatally injured, and an Ak 47 rifle belonging to the bandit was recovered at the scene.”
“Many others retreated to the forest with possible various degrees of gunshot wounds.”
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Ayuba N. Elkanah, commends the resilience of the joint operatives and charges them not to relent in the command’s effort to safeguard the lives and property of innocent people in the state.”
In the same vein, the Commissioner of Police has directed the Area Commander, Anka, and the neighbouring Divisional Police Officers to deploy reinforcement teams to complement the ongoing confidence and to build patrol aimed to avert further attacks on nearby communities.
The commissioner also charged the DPOs to rescue the two kidnapped victims already abducted by the assailants before police arrival.
He assured that the command would be more committed to the protection of lives and property in the state.
He called on members of the public to cooperate with the police and other security agencies in the ongoing effort to rid the state of bandit terrorists and other criminal elements in the state.
