The Vice-President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has said no child should lack access to quality education or opportunities for realising their potential.
Osinbajo who gave the 10th-year memorial keynote address of Oba Oladele Olashore in Lagos and was represented by Mr Dapo Akinosun, said there were over 100 children without prior access to quality education, adding that they were now knowledgeable because of the exposure gained, as beneficiaries of scholarships from Olashore.
He said, ‘‘No child, anywhere in the world, should have to go to bed hungry. None should have to be uncertain of their future because they have no access to quality education or opportunities for realizing their potential. And it falls on all of us. Those privileged with positions of leadership or authority in the public or private sectors, and those privileged with access to wealth.’’
Late Oba Olashore was the founder of the Olashore International School, Osun State.
In her remarks, the Chairperson of OISA Foundation, Mrs Olapeju Sofowora, said Olashore used all his resources and influence to get things done at the National, State, local and community levels particularly in his domain, llokoIjesha, where he lived in the last 17 years before he passed on.
‘’The decision to have a memorial lecture in honour of our late father, is to enable us highlight and bring to the fore the urgent need for us to collaborate and cooperate with one another to serve our fatherland as our late father demonstrated,’’ she added
Chairman, Fate Foundation, Mr Fola Adeola, who gave the 10th year memorial lecture titled, ‘Public service as the best form of service: The example of Oba Oladele Olashore, said, ‘‘Oba Olashore cared about education, particularly, quality secondary education, and, beyond just caring, he set up a secondary school that offers scholarships to young people who would otherwise have been unable to afford such an education. In their lives, and the lives of everybody each of those children goes on to impact, he defies death.’’
A former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr Joseph Sanusi, said, “We worked together in CBN and we became friends. Oba Olashore was a good leader, he provided excellent leadership. ‘’
