Newcastle United are reportedly willing to pay big money to try and sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli, according to reports in Italy.
According to CalcioNapoli24, which cites Gazzetta dello Sport, Newcastle have been preparing to push again to sign Osimhen, who is thought to be valued at at least the £86m mark by the Italian club.
Osimhen’s name is nothing new when it comes to English teams being interested. Arsenal are known to be long-term admirers of the Nigerian striker, while Tottenham have been linked with him during this current window.
However, while Newcastle are thought to be keen on signing Osimhen, there is a problem. The forward is said to favour staying with Napoli due to the lack of Champions League football on offer from those interested clubs in England. Of course, that would only come his way if Tottenham made their move.
Osimhen rattled in 18 goals for Napoli last season as he once again showed his potential and quality in front of goal.
Labelled a ‘phenomenal‘ player for his performances in the past, Osimhen has already scored 15 goals in just 23 games for Nigeria. Napoli paid huge money to sign him from Lille two seasons ago.
While Newcastle and Eddie Howe might be big fans of Osimhen, if Napoli are demanding over £80m, it’s hard to see that deal being done any time soon.
Osimhen is a quality operator though. And should Newcastle qualify for the Champions League in the next few seasons, then he might be a realistic signing then.
