This was contained in a statement by the Special Adviser to the Edo State Government on Media Projects, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, and made available to The PUNCH on Wednesday.
The statement noted that the representative of the State Governor and Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Osaigbovo Iyoha, gave the assurance, during a courtesy visit by the executives of the Coalition for Southern Peoples Democratic Party at the Government House, in Benin City.
Obaseki, receiving the group led by its National Chairman, Chief Nwankwo Godwin, said the government would continue to support the youths, providing them with the opportunity to live life to the fullest.
Obaseki, who identified the youths as the future of the party and the country, urged them not to lose hope in the country, but to be united and join other stakeholders in the quest to rescue Nigeria and reposition it for greatness and prosperity.
He reassured, “Obaseki is the chairman of the PDP registration and the party has registered about 600,000 people in the state. We want to assure you that the PDP is Edo and Edo is the PDP. We are doing everything to ensure we move the party to the centre.”
On his part, the chairman of the coalition said the body is drawn from 17 states from the southern part of the country, which comprises the South-East, South-West and South-South.
He explained that the coalition aimed at fostering unity within the southern PDP, adding, “Most of our youths in this area are left behind but as a group, we are working to bring unity within the youths in the region.”
Godwin further noted, “We commend the governor for being a lover of the youths and appeal to him to be the patron of this noble body.
“We want to go round the 359 local government areas in the 17 states to mobilise the youths to participate in politics.”
