Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State on Wednesday replaced the Chairman of Kano Pillars FC Surajo Yahaya, with the Chairman, Kano State Sports Commission, Ibrahim Galadima, as part of moves to strengthen the club.
Last week, the League Management Company expelled Yahaya from the Nigeria Professional Football League for assaulting Assistant Referee 1, Daramola Olalekan, after visitors Dakkada FC scored a late equaliser against his team in Kano.
LMC also hit Pillars with a N2.7m fine.
“Kano Pillars chairman Suraj Yahaya also assaulted a match official Daramola Olalekan, with his conduct capable of bringing the game to disrepute,” the league body stated.
But in a statement on Wednesday, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ganduje, Abba Anwar, said Galadima took charge in acting capacity, as part of efforts to provide the right leadership for the club.
Yahaya’s disgraceful act against the match official, was however, not included in the statement.
“As Kano Pillars are facing more competition in the Premier League, it would be good to have a leadership that could perfectly lead the club to victory.
“Ibrahim Galadima, Chairman, Kano State Sports Commission, will now replace the current chairman, Surajo Shu’aibu Yahaya, in an acting capacity, prior to the appointment of a substantive chairman,” Governor Ganduje said.
The appointment is with immediate effect.
