The Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union has condemned Governor Dapo Abiodun’s alleged refusal to meet with the national body of the union on how to address the problems regarding staff welfare at the Tai Solarin College of Education.
The Vice President South-West, who is the Zonal Coordinator of COEASU, Olusegun Lana, condemned the governor’s attitude in an interview with our correspondent in Ibadan on Friday.
Lana said, “COEASU condemns the attitude of Governor Dapo Abiodun towards several efforts made by the national body of the union to meet him for an amicable resolution of the deplorable situation of staff welfare in the college. We went to the extent of holding a press conference to call for dialogue after a series of unreplied letters.
“At this moment that the governor has seen the need to engage labour unions in the state following the strike action declared by Nigeria Labour Congress, we are reiterating our call for dialogue with him. For the umpteenth time, we are telling the governor that our union, COEASU, has some workable ideas which are sensitive to the capabilities of the government that could solve the problems of the college.”
Meanwhile, the COEASU TASCE branch has said the union has made several efforts towards resolving the crisis surrounding the welfare of staff of the college but it has not yielded positive results.
The Chairman of the union, Dr Modupe Oba-Adenuga, and Secretary, Oluwatosin Okusanya, said this in a letter written to the governor and a copy of which was made available to our correspondent on Friday
The union urged Abiodun to still invite them to a meeting on how to address the issues before it would be too late.
