Idris was reported to have unofficially stopped a football match in the ongoing Gombe State Football Association league.
The Gombe State Branch Secretary of the Nigeria Red Cross, Murtala Abdullahi, made the pronouncement, during an interview with our correspondent.
He said that what Habu Idris, a bona fide volunteer member of the Nigerian Red Cross, did was not official.
“The said person went to the stadium on his own, not fully kitted, and was not officially invited by the Gombe State Football Association to cover the match,” Abdullahi added.
He also explained that NRCS has used its power to suspend him till further notice, adding that the society also urged the Nigeria Professional Football League/FA officials to inform them the next time such a thing happens, promising to give it quick attention.
Murtala added, “Red Cross members do not go to the field on their own until they are invited by the FA but in his own case, there’s no official invitation to go to the stadium to stop the ongoing match.”
Meanwhile, Gombe State Football Association has set up a five-man committee to investigate match fixing scandal involving some Nigerian Nationwide League clubs in the state.
