Succour has finally come the way of four ex-security guards at Jamasco Industries Limited, who were owed 29 months salaries backlog after a report published by Sunday PUNCH.
The ex-security guards – Kolawole Faniyi (75), Rasheed Ayankeye (82), Christopher Adeola (76) and Segun Adewale (70) – through their lawyer, Mr Femi Aborisade, said the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, is a director in Jamasco Industries Limited.
But Ooni’s palace spokesperson, Moses Olafare, said the monarch had handed over the company to a new management long before he ascended the throne in the year 2016.
In the report titled, “Pay us 29 months’ salaries, septuagenarians, other beg Ooni,” published in Sunday PUNCH of July 3, 2022, the ex-security guards lamented that all efforts to get the company to pay them their backlog of salaries had failed.
Their lawyer explained that his clients resorted to a court action at the National Industrial Court in Ibadan, leading to a consent judgment in which the court ordered that the ex-security guards be paid N600, 000 each by the firm.
Following the Sunday PUNCH report, Aborisade told our correspondent on Monday that his clients had finally been paid.
He said, “I’m happy to inform you that pursuant to the publication of our open letter to the Ooni of Ife by The PUNCH, the N600,000.00 judgment debt owed the four aged ex-security officers has just been lodged into our chambers account for the benefit of the aged ex-security officers.”
“Thank you very much. We appreciate you always.
“The PUNCH has achieved for us what could not be achieved since 2019 when judgment was given. Truly, the pen is mightier than the gun.”
