The young social entrepreneur who hails from Ohaji-Egbema Local Government Area of the state over the weekend held the educational programme which included distribution of writing materials and mathematics competition for primary school pupils in Awarra, Assa, Obile and Ochia communities.
Speaking to The PUNCH via telephone chat on Tuesday, Nduka noted that his motivation for organising educational programmes from the desire to check the educational backwardness and stigmatisation faced by the people in the community.
According to him, people from Awarra court area of Imo State were being looked down upon as less educated people when they interacted with their counterparts from other communities in the state.
“When people from the the local government area I come from, especially in Awarra court area, meet with others from other towns and communities and they mention that they’re from such a place, the people see them as not well-educated,” Nduka said.
The 23-year-old faulted the leadership in the area, adding that there was no motivation to boost education.
He said, “The kind of leadership we have there is awkward. They don’t motivate. Even when I was younger, there was nobody to motivate me to study hard. So I decided that I have a lot to offer in my community, not just the community giving back to me. So I chose that path.”
To drive his vision for the community, Nduka said he founded the Team P.U Nduka, a foundation focused on boosting education in the community.
The two-year-old foundation has succeeded in giving free school uniforms to students and training youths in Computer-Based Test examination in preparation of candidates for tertiary education.
Nduka noted that 20 of the beneficiaries of the CBT training had gained admission into higher institutions in the country.
The education enthusiast said he hoped to expand his activities to other communities if his foundation got sponsorship.
