Led by the APC North West Chairman, Malam Salihu Lukman, the team disclosed that Kebbi will be the first port of call to re-strategise and strengthen grey areas in the seven states in the geopolitical zone.
The development comes five days after a delegation of northern leaders, including Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State and Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano, were assigned to meet with Tinubu over ‘vital concerns’ regarding his proposed running mate.
The decision was taken in Kaduna on Thursday after the defection of a two-term Governor of Kano State and Senator representing Kano Central Senatorial District, Ibrahim Shekarau, was announced.
Shekarau, whose defection was announced on Wednesday by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, during the plenary, had defected from the All Progressives Congress to team up with the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Dr Rabiu Kwankwaso, in May.
In a statement issued on Monday by APC Zonal Publicity Secretary (North West), Musa Mailafiya Mada, the Malam Salihu Lukman-led delegation met with party stakeholders in Birnin Kebbi, the Kebbi State capital.
The statement read, “They enumerated areas of the party’s strength that proved Kebbi is one of the APC’s strongholds not only in the Zone but also in the entire country in general. Few areas of concern that need to be improved have also been identified, suggestible solutions were equally offered by the participants as well.”
Governor of Kebbi State, Senator Atiku Bagudu, who was represented by his Deputy, Col. Sama’ila Wambe Dabai (retd.), appreciated the zonal officials for taking out time to conduct the fact-finding campaign that he believed will give them an insight on how to strategise ahead of the 2023 General Elections.
Bagudu further assured the delegation that recommendations made during their interactive session will be given due consideration.
