A number of fans also went on to say that Waldrum should look towards the more energetic home-based players, instead of being distracted by the hype around the overseas-based players.
Two quick second-half goals from Jermaine Seoposenwe and Hilda Magaia in two minutes handed the South Africans the lead.
A 92nd-minute goal by striker Rasheedat Ajibade proved a mere consolation, as Banyana claimed their third win in their last four meetings with the Falcons.
Oyewale Isaiah expressed his displeasure that Monday didn’t play on Monday, “Gift Monday sitting there on the bench, pissed me off.”
Ayodeji Adegbenro added, “How did Gift Monday not get any minutes in this game? #WAFCON.”
Fasunhan Oluwatosin wrote, “We all know it will be hard for the babe to break into the team at this period… sentiment everywhere.”
Another user @IkennaOkey bemoaned Monday’s absence.
“And we needed a Gift this Monday! Mtchwwww!”
Another Twitter user, @dejairo655 blamed Waldrum for the loss.
“Waldrum cost us that game, he could see the frailty in the midfield yet sat a whole ’80 minutes to make a change, worse off was playing Ajibade in the midfield, for goodness sake she’s a striker, then benching Ordega, Gift Monday, Kanu. These are goal-getters. A poor decision by the coach.”
Ifeanyi Orji said, “They can’t string passes together, no link between midfield and attack, Chikwelu has no business in that team, Gift Monday would have been better off in that attack.”
Some other fans took to social media to tell Waldrum not to start Oshoala next game and instead play Monday.
@alexanderejiofo said, “Oshoala shouldn’t start, she should come in as a sub. Gift Monday should play in place of Oshoala.”
Francis Achi stated, “Asisat Oshoala should start from the bench against Botswana on Thursday. Uche Kanu should start the game. Gift Monday is another attacker that can add bite to the team.”
Another user, @kayodesuberu, seems to be a huge fan of Monday.
“There’s a young lady in Bayelsa Queens, Gift Monday. She’s a very good footballer. Play those young ladies and forget these old ladies. Drop Asisat and play Gift Monday ahead of her. She’s agile, hungry, pacy, and motivated, Asisat should be benched for now.”
Azubuike David added, “Peace Efih must start, she’s the best midfielder in that team then unleash Gift Monday and Vivian. Forget the Euro hype of big names, those girls no dey look your face. I watch them play, I know what they can do.”
