He gave the advice while speaking with journalists at his private residence in Daura shortly after he had joined his kinsmen to observe special prayers in commemoration of this year’s Eid-el-Kabir at the Kofar Arewa praying ground.
He said Nigerians should complement the efforts of security agencies by giving credible information about criminals.
“My advice to people is that they should report criminals to security agencies. We want real peace and progress in the country.”
The President also said with the rate at which people were returning to farms, Nigeria would have abundant food to eat and export.
He said, “Firstly, we hope that the rainy season will be good and our people will be productive. I think that is the most important thing when there’s enough food for the people.
“Look at when we closed our borders for about two years, stopped importation of rice, a lot of people had gone back to the farm and they haven’t regretted it, we are now feeding ourselves and some rice being exported. So, this is my objective and I am achieving it. My only problem is that there are still people who really benefit from killing other people and stealing and so on. I hope they will sit and reflect and make sure that they contribute meaningfully to the country.”
The President, who had earlier played host to some members of the National Youths Service Corps deployed to Katsina State, who paid him a Sallah visit, said the NYSC had assisted in the cohesion of the country.
He said the scheme had also assisted Nigerian youths to know more about the country.
The President said, “It’s very good for Nigerians seeing corps members being posted to Maiduguri, Katsina, etc., from other parts of the country and vice versa. Before the NYSC, there were people of Lagos who had never gone out of the Lagos Island, and then they found themselves in Maiduguri, or Sokoto or here. I think it’s very very good for Nigeria.
“Nigeria is so vast culturally, ethnically and religiously, and we have to learn tolerance with each other.
“So, I congratulate you for coming here from the other end of Nigeria, from wherever you came; I wish you a successful NYSC camp.”
The President also donated one million naira and 10 rams to the visiting corps members as Sallah gifts.
