The erstwhile Special Adviser on Legal and Constitutional Matters to the Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, announced his resignation on Sunday.
However, news trending on social media and online platforms in the last 24 hours referred to Bwala as a former National Legal Adviser of the APC.
The legal practitioner had renounced his membership of the party after APC presidential flagbearer, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, unveiled former Borno governor, Kashim Shettima, as his running mate.
Bwala had expressed concerns that despite the fear and protests by Nigerians over the party’s disposition to Muslim-Muslim ticket, Tinubu could still settle for Shettima as running mate.
His tweet read, “Tonight I officially resigned my membership of @OfficialAPCNg on principles and conviction that I hold so dear. At this time of our national existence, our efforts and energy should gravitate towards uniting our people.
“Asiwaju has announced Kashim Shetima as his running mate. Kwankwaso is planning to announce a Pentecostal Bishop as his running mate. Interesting times lie ahead.”
Bwala’s resignation came hours after a former Caretaker Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission, Ibim Semenitari, officially dumped the party.
Semenitari, who was also a former Information Commissioner under the administration of former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi reportedly sent her letter of resignation to her APC Ward Chairman in Okrika LGA of the state.
Semenitari’s predecessor, Ogbonna Nwuke, along with another Amaechi’s loyalist, Allwell Onyeso, had earlier left the APC for the Peoples Democratic Party, Onyeso has secured a PDP senatorial ticket for the 2023 election.
Reacting to the drama, National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Felix Morka, issued a disclaimer on Monday to clear the air.
While stating that the party has never at any point engaged Bwala as a legal counsel, Morka maintained that Ahmad Usman El-Marzuq remains the official Legal Adviser.
The statement read, “Our attention has been drawn to a false and misleading report circulating on some media platforms that the National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress has resigned.
“Barr. Ahmad Usman El-Marzuq is, and remains, the National Legal Adviser of APC. Barr. Daniel Bwala was not the National Legal Adviser of the Party as erroneously reported.
“The report is either borne out of mischief or extreme negligence. We urge the General Public to kindly disregard.”
