The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Abia State, Chief Ikechi Emenike, has described low budgeting as one of the major reasons the state has been experiencing stunted growth.
According to a statement on Wednesday, Emenike spoke while addressing some stakeholders in Ututu, Arochukwu Local Government Area of the state.
He was quoted as saying that the less than N200bn that had been budgeted for the state over the years is not enough to attract the needed development.
“Any budget less than N200bn cannot develop Abia. In the past three years, the administration of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has been turning out less than N200bn in its final policies with N137.419bn for 2020, N131.815bn in 2021 while N157.282bn was budgeted for 2022 fiscal year.
“Though this year’s budget recorded 10.81% increase above 2021 fiscal policy, it still fell short,” Emenike was quoted.
He promised to set up “building blocks of development” that would place the state on the path of growth.
