Nigeria international Chidera Ejuke has completed a season long loan deal to join German Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin from Russian giants CSKA Moscow, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Despite initial delay due to visa and administrative issues, Ejuke landed in Germany Tuesday and underwent his medical with the Bundesliga club Wednesday.
The 24-year-old took advantage of the FIFA ruling that allowed foreign footballers and coaching staff from the Russian Premier League to unilaterally suspend their contracts at Russian clubs until the summer of 2023.
After passing his medicals on Wednesday, Hertha officially confirmed the signing of Nigerian winger, who joins the club on a one-year-loan with no option to buy.
“Welcome to Berlin, Chidera Ejuke,” the club wrote on their Twitter handle.
“The Nigerian international joins us on the spree, on loan from CSKA Moscow. We look forward to seeing you, Chide!”
Reacting to his transfer, the three-cap Super Eagles winger said, “I’m looking forward to Hertha, to the Bundesliga and this special challenge. I want to do my part to help the club achieve its goals.”
Hertha Sporting Director, Fredi Bobic, said of his new acquisition, “Chidera has already proven himself in several European leagues.
“He brings technique, versatility and skills. We are convinced that he will augment our game.”
Ejuke is expected to travel as quickly as possible to the Hertha training camp in Burton-upon-Trent, not far from Birmingham, to join up with his new teammates as they prepare for the new season.
The German outfit are the player’s fourth club in European football, after previously wearing the colours of Valerenga Oslo, SC Heerenveen and CSKA Moscow.
During his two-year spell in Russia, Ejuke scored 10 goals and provided eight assists in 55 appearances.
