Newly promoted La Liga side Almeria have been boosted by the arrival of Nigeria international Sadiq Umar, after the striker returned to the club’s pre-season ahead of the 2022/23 season, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
In a video posted by the club on their Twitter, Sadiq was seen working out with his teammates.
The forward, who had previously trained alone in the gym since linking up with the Rojiblancos, joined the full team session on Wednesday.
Almeria began their pre-season preparations on Saturday with the Super Eagles forward missing, fuelling speculations that the player may have played his last game for the club after helping them seal promotion to the topflight.
The club, however, confirmed that Sadiq was absent from training after being granted an extended holiday after being involved in Nigeria’s AFCON qualifiers.
The 24-year-old striker was in the Eagles squad that defeated Sierra Leone 2-1 and crushed Sao Tome and Principe 10-0 during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in early June.
Following two incredible seasons at the Mediterranean Games Stadium, the former Roma player’s future with the Rojiblancos has been in doubt, having been linked with a move away from the club.
Sevilla, Real Betis and Villarreal are some of the Spanish clubs interested in the service of the Nigerian, with Almeria holding out for a €20m fee for one of their most prized players.
During the 2021/22 season, Sadiq scored 18 league goals as Almeria secured promotion to La Liga.
