The Segun Oni Campaign Organisation of the Social Democratic Party in Ekiti State has said that the All Progressives Congress in the state is jittery over the petition filed by the SDP governorship candidate, Chief Segun Oni, before the state Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal over the conduct and outcome of the June 18 election.
Oni, who last week submitted his petition before the court to challenge the declaration by the Independent National Electoral Commission of the APC governorship candidate, Biodun Oyebanji, as the winner of the June 18 election, had said he scored the highest number of valid votes.
SOCO Director of Media, Jackson Adebayo, told Saturday PUNCH, that APC members were jittery following the preponderance of evidences presented by the SDP in the petition.
“Although there has not been any official reaction from the APC, we heard rumours here and there on efforts to pressurise our candidate, but we do not care about such because we know that there is nothing they can do that can make us withdraw the petition.
“Definitely, they should be jittery because they were not expecting that all those things that they perpetrated in the election would be revealed. So, naturally, they would feel jittery and they are.
“They won’t know how to approach us because they know that we are resolute. If we did not have our facts and figures, we would not have gone to the tribunal. The election was marred with a lot of irregularities, a lot of contradictions to the Electoral Act and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“So, if they are trying to pressurise for withdrawal of the petition, it is just mere waste of time,” Adebayo said.
But the state APC Publicity Secretary, Segun Dipe, who dismissed the SDP and its petition, describing it as shadow shading, said his party had no reason to be jittery.
Dipe said, “The petition is just a wild goose chase. We are not just worried about SDP and their petition. We know that their candidate is at the tribunal seeking political relevance. He doesn’t mean what he is doing. He was beaten blue black in the election.”
