In a bid to end open defecation by 2025 as stipulated by the Federal Government, the Delta State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency has embarked on advocacy visit to some Local Government Areas in the state to ascertain their compliance with the use of the toilet campaign.
The monitoring team, which was led by the Director of Planning Research and Statistics, Mr Ochuko Asore, on Friday, said Delta was ready to end open defecation with the provision of toilet facilities in the state.
He said some of the toilets built by the Delta State RUWASSA and its partners were ways of ending open defecation.
He said, “One of the sanitation facilities visited was the toilets built in the Primary Health Centre at Ute-Okpu, Ika North East Local Government, by the Delta State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA).
“The people in the locality were happy and lauded the efforts of RUWASSA at working towards eradication of open defecation in the state.
“They have assured us that with the provision of the toilets, they will no longer see the need to engage in open defecation and we hope they keep to that.”
