The governorship candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance in Enugu State, and former Minister of Information, Frank Nweke Jnr., has nominated Dr. Ngozi Ugwanyi as his deputy governorship candidate.
This was announced in a Twitter Space broadcast, monitored by our correspondent, on Tuesday.
Nweke described her as a great woman leader and a leading businesswoman. Nweke stressed that there would be a lot of female local government chairmen and leaders when the party won the governorship seat of the state in the forthcoming elections.
Nweke said, “I was looking for a woman of competence, a woman of character, and because of that, she will be the most active Deputy Governor in Nigeria.
“Enugu state is not working. The water crisis was not as bad as it is today. Everywhere you turn in the state, it has been taken over by filth. The level of insecurity in the state has reached its all-time high. All because of bad governance.”
He claimed that the current governor of the state had refused to follow the footsteps of Anambra’s iconic son, Dr Micheal Okpara, who created a viable economy for the eastern region.
“Today, not only has the government destroyed the legacy of Okpara, they have not created one (one good legacy),” he said.
While promising to provide sustainable housing among many dividends, he called all children of voting age and eligible voters to register to vote.
In her acceptance speech, Ugwuanyi expressed thanks to the governorship candidate for nominating her, and noted that she would play a major part in “building the Enugu of our dreams.” Ugwanyi said, “it is inspiring to have a party that is driven by gender inclusion, people-oriented, and performance-driven.”
She said that the governorship candidate and herself were willing to take families out of poverty and bring the state back to its enviable position among the states in the Federation.
“Together, we will return the campaign that will include women and youths. We will build a state where the family will not think of where the next meal will come from,” she said.
She called the people of Enugu State to rise and vote for the party that truly cared about them.
