The Nigerian female national team, Super Falcons reportedly shunned training Wednesday night ahead of the third-place match in the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco as they protested unpaid allowances.
Complete Sports reports that the Falcons protested over unpaid bonuses and allowances.
The players had reportedly met with officials of the Nigeria Football Federation over the issue Wednesday morning.
Wednesday’s protest was not the first to be staged by the Nigerian players.
The PUNCH reported that the nine-time African champions staged a similar protest in France in 2019.
Another protest over unpaid allowances was also staged by Super Falcons in 2016, The PUNCH reported.
The Nigerian female national team will play against She-polopolo of Zambia in the third place match of WAFCON 2022 on Friday.
The encounter is billed for the Stade Mohamed V, Casablanca, Complete Sports reports.
