Terrorists have reportedly killed the Christian Association of Nigeria Chairman of Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Rev. Fr. John Cheitnum
The state Chairman of the association, Rev. John Hayab, stated this on Tuesday.
Cheitnum was abducted on Friday along with another cleric, Rev. Fr. Donatus Cleopas, who reportedly escaped from the kidnappers’ den.
Hayab said the CAN official was killed the day he was abducted, adding that he was a victim of circumstances.
He said, “Clerics have become endangered species in the hands of terrorists in Kaduna State.
“I cannot vividly give details of what transpired, but Reverend Father Cheitnum has been one of our strong voices and they know him.”
According to him, priests and Christian leaders have become targets of terrorists.
“The terrorists are out to silence and weaken us to a level we cannot dare say anything,” Hayab added.
The spokesperson for the Kaduna State Police Command, Mohammed Jalige, did not respond to calls on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
The Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, in a statement on Tuesday, said the priest would be buried on Thursday.
