A driver with the Katsina State Transport Service, Nasiru Yushau, on Sunday afternoon lost his life after his vehicle ran into terrorists along Katsina/Jibia road.
The terrorists reportedly shot him dead after they caught up with him while trying to make a U – turn after he sighted them (the terrorists) along the highway.
Sources revealed that the driver had just dropped some passengers at Jibia and was returning to Katsina when he sighted the terrorists at a location called Farun Bala.
It was further revealed that the driver was attempting to manoeuvre the 30 – passenger Toyota bus with Registration Number 148-58 KT when the terrorists who were operating on motorcycles, caught up with him and shot him dead.
The sources added that troops of the Nigeria Army rescued the passengers as the terrorists beat a retreat at the arrival of the troops at the scene.
The KSTS General Manager, Haruna Musa, who also confirmed the incident,revealed, “The deceased conveyed the passengers he took from Katsina to Jibia. Then, from Jibia also, he took passengers to Katsina that was when the incident happened at Farun Bala.
“The driver was trying to turn the vehicle with the passengers when he saw the four bandits crossing the road at that particular community. They shot him dead. Maybe they thought that he would go back and give information.
“There was no kidnapping intention by the bandits because they didn’t kidnap anybody. They only shot the driver and collected cash and some phones of the passengers. It wasn’t a target.
“I went to the scene and I was among those that took the corpse from the scene to General Hospital Katsina now to Musawa, the hometown of the deceased, for burial”.
The remains of the driver were later taken to his hometown,Musawa for burrial also on Sunday.
Phone calls and SMS sent to the Spokesman for the Katsina Police Command, Gambo Isah, by our correspondent on Sunday were not responded to.
