Three persons have lost their lives while four others sustained varying degrees of injury when a vehicle rammed into motorcycles on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
An eye witness said the vehicle, a Toyota Corolla, lost control and rammed into five motorcycles while the operators were picking passengers at Arepo Bus-Stop in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The accident occurred on Thursday, around 12:30 pm.
The Federal Road Safety Corps confirmed the fatal incident, saying five motorcycles and one vehicle were involved in the accident.
The FRSC Public Education Officer, Ogun Sector Command, Florence Okpe, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
Okpe said the Toyota Corolla car with registration number FKJ848FH and five motorcycles which are a BAJAJ motorcycle with registration number, SGM404VL, another one with registration number DED802VC and three others that did not have registration numbers were involved.
According to Okpe, the suspected causes of the multiple crashes were speed which led to the loss of control on the part of the vehicle which rammed into the motorcycles at the bus stop while the operators were picking up passengers.
She explained “a fatal crash occurred at about 1230 hours on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway around Arepo Bus-stop.
“A total of eight persons were involved which comprised seven male adults and one female adult.
“Four persons were injured, one female adult and three male adults. One person was unhurt.
“A total of three persons were killed and all male adults.”
She, however, said the injured victims were taken to Beachland Hospital Arepo for medical attention and ROA Hospital Arepo while two of the dead bodies were taken by the Hausa community at Arepo for burial and the remaining dead person was taken to Divine Touch Hospital morgue.
“The MTD Police Warewa took custody of the crashed vehicles and obstruction cleared off.
“The Sector Commander FRSC Ogun reiterated on speed violation and advised motorists to obey traffic rules and regulations.
“He also sympathised with the families of the deceased and pray that God should strengthen them for the losses.”
