The Lead Pastor, Trinity House Church, Lagos, Pastor Ituah Ighodalo, has said the country lacks leaders that are willing to sacrifice for the benefit of the country.
Ighodalo said the Nigerian elite didn’t go into politics to serve the people but to benefit themselves.
Speaking to Saturday PUNCH in an interview, Ighodalo said, “Good leadership comes with great sacrifice. We are not ready.
“We must be ready to get involved and make the sacrifices to bring the proper change. What Nigeria lacks is a group of people who are willing to make the sacrifice for the benefit of Nigeria.
“How can you be complaining about leadership when you are not ready to stand in line in the sun and rain to cast your vote and express your opinion?
“When you are not ready to get involved in politics and in the process, that brings about leadership, then you do not have the right to complain if things get bad.
“Many people are not ready to speak up because they are afraid that when they speak out, it puts them at some kind of economic disadvantage.”
He added, “The right attitude of Nigerian Christians should be that they must be politically aware and conscious. We must be ready to get involved and make the sacrifices to bring the proper change.
“God will not come from heaven to fix our problems. We must be part of the fixing of our problems and be sincere and truthful to one another. We all need to get involved and find out what really is in the best interest of the totality of Nigeria and the average Nigerian.
“Until we can decide what the best interest of the average Nigerian is or the totality of Nigerian, we would still be begging the question.
“Some groups are afraid to sit with the rest of Nigerians and have this discussion because they know where this discussion will end and they know that it will cause some kind of disadvantage or the other. The British laid a very bad political foundation for this nation in their own interest.
“Why have we as Nigerians not been able to wake up and smell the coffee? (Why have we refused to see) that our problems are not ourselves but the people who take advantage of our disunity and lack of direction?”
