Angry protesters on Monday morning blocked the ever-busy Benin-Sapele road over the deteriorated state of the highway.
The blockade resulted in severe gridlock, particularly around the entrance and exit points to Sapele metropolis, off the highway.
Consequently, many commuters were stranded just as socioeconomic activities along the road were crippled as the protesters, mainly youths, showcased their grievances over the deplorable condition of the road.
The protesters who claimed to ply the road on regular basis, vowed to remain adamant until the authorities show commitment to fix the failed portions of the road.
The Federal Director of Highways in the affected area could not be reached as of the time of filing this report.
Also, efforts to obtain comments of the Police Public Relations Officer for Delta State Command, DSP Bright Edafe were not successful as he didn’t take his calls.
