The Edo State Police Command on Tuesday said it had rescued three kidnapped victims in the state.
A statement by Deputy Police Public Relations Office, Jennifer Iwegbu, revealed that the victims were rescued in Akoko-Edo on Monday.
The statement read, “In continuation of its fight to curtail and rid the state of the menace of kidnapping and other related vices, the Edo State Police Command through its Divisional Headquarters Ibillo, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, on 01/08/2022 at about 07:00hrs rescued some kidnapped victims.
“This was sequel to credible information provided to the police by good Nigerians that hoodlums dressed in Army Camouflage attacked two vehicles along Ibillo/Ikiran-Ore Road, emerged from the bush, and whisked six passengers from the vehicles into the bush.
“Upon receipt of the information, the Divisional Police Officer, Ibillo, in collaboration with the military and vigilantes, mobilised and swung into action immediately.
“The intensive bush combing yielded results as three of the kidnapped victims, Alice Audu (70 years), Ruth Isiah (65 years) and Dejor Isiaka (50 years), were rescued unhurt and have since been reunited with their families. Efforts are still ongoing to rescue the other three and also to neutralise or arrest the fleeing suspects.
“To this end, the Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Abutu Yaro, calls on the general public to be vigilant and report any strange person(s) or movement around their communities to the police.
“He further reinstates his commitment towards ensuring that Edo State is made safe and free of crime, and anyone that tries to truncate the peace of the State will be met with still resistance.
“He urged the good people of Edo State to continue to work with the police by way of availing them with prompt and credible information.”
