The Military Pensions Board said it had commenced the payment of the third tranche of the owed 24 months arrears of minimum wage to over 90,000 retired military personnel.
The PUNCH had reported that the ex-servicemen protested at the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Defence, demanding the payment of the minimum wage arrears.
The Board, after the protest, paid 25 per cent of the owed allowances in February, while another 25 per cent was paid in May.
However, in a statement by its Chairman, Rear Admiral Saburi Lawal, the Board said the payment of another 25 per cent had commenced on Thursday.
He added that all Next-of-Kin of deceased military pensioners entitled to the arrears had been fully paid.
The statement partly read, “We wish to inform our esteemed military retirees and the general public that the Board has commenced payment of the third tranche of 25 per cent of the 24 months arrears of National Minimum Wage increments on pensions to eligible military retirees on Thursday, August 4, 2022.
“This third installment is being paid to eligible military retirees who are active on the Board’s database and it is in fulfillment of the agreement reached between the Board and the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning for quarterly release of the appropriated sum this year.
It is also necessary to inform that all Next of Kin of deceased military pensioners who are entitled to these same arrears have been fully paid. All concerned military pensioners are therefore advised to contact their banks for their entitlements.”
He assured that the board would ensure the payment was concluded before the end of the year.
