Fire has gutted a Power Transformer at the Idumagbo Injection Substation of the Eko Electricity Distribution Company, and has caused power outage to the areas of Lagos State which the substation serves.
In a post via its Twitter handle, Tuesday evening, the DISCO noted that the fire incident occurred at 3pm, during which the transformer was badly burnt.
It noted that customers in Idumagbo and Ajele areas of Lagos Island were affected by the development.
The statement read, “Dear esteemed customers, this is to inform you that a 15MVA Power Transformer at New Idumagbo Injection Substation caught fire at about 3pm today.
“Firefighters came to arrest the situation to prevent the spread but the Transformer was badly burnt.
“Customers in Idumagbo and Ajele are affected. Please bear with us as we are working in the interim to back feed affected customers from another source.”
In a video on the DISCO’s Instagram page, firefighters were seen trying to quench the fire which was burning very wildly.
