The Ebonyi State Government, Thursday, said it had concluded plans to train over 300 youths in entrepreneurial skills and self-reliance.
It also said it was poised to train the newly elected chairmen of the 13 Local Government Areas and the 171 ward councillors of the state in leadership programmes.
While the duration for the training of youths will be for a period of one month, that of the newly elected council bosses and ward councillors will last for three weeks, according to the State Government.
The Commissioner for Information in the state, Uchenna Orji, stated this while briefing journalists after the Executive Council meeting on Thursday, in Abakaliki.
According to him, “The executive council approved the implementation of a leadership programme for the Future Leaders of Ebonyi State. Under this training programme, 300 youths of Ebonyi State shall be given intensive leadership training for one month and the areas of coverage shall be leadership, ethics, self reliance, entrepreneurship, etc.
“This programme is going to be a legacy programme for the future leaders of Ebonyi State. The first category will be those with O level, second category is for first degree holders and third category is for those with second degree and above. In order to select these 300 members, advertisement will be done for us to have 20 per Local Government Area on the ratio of 3:2:1 on the categories.
“The second category of training approved by the EXCO is leadership training for the newly elected Local Government Council Chairmen and Councilors. They will be trained for three weeks.
“The EXCO committees were set up to handle the respective leadership programmes and they were charged to immediately commence the processes of the two trainings as approved by the EXCO.”
