The Police in Benue State have arrested two suspected kidnappers terrorising parts of the state.
The suspects were said to specialise in kidnapping women in the state, one of their victims was a wife of a former local government chairman.
Parading the suspects at the office of the Security Adviser to the governor, Lt. Col. Paul Hemba, the Commissioner of Police, Wale Abass, said that police were able to arrest the suspects when the mobile of one of the suspects was found at the scene of their operation.
Abass stated, “What gave us the lead was that the phone of one of the kidnappers dropped at the scene of their operation. It was a gang of four kidnappers. We are on the trail of the gang leader.’’
Also speaking on the gang’s operations, Paul Hemba, noted that the suspects specialised in kidnapping women, adding that the wife of a former Vandeikya local government chairman was once kidnapped by the suspects.
He also said that the state government would demolish the house the kidnappers used to perpetrate the crime.
Hemba added, “The suspects were arrested on August, 9, 2022 and it is a gang that specialises in kidnapping women. Benue State government has zero tolerance for kidnap and according to the law of the state, anyone who allows his or her property to be used by kidnappers as a den will have such a building demolished. We are going to demolish the building.’’
Also narrating how his wife was kidnapped, the ex-Vandeikya LG chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Anor, said that his wife spent nine days in the kidnappers’ den.
Anor said, “My wife was kidnapped at the front of our house late last year. They demanded N25m but ended up paying N3m after many pleas. My wife spent nine days in captivity. I thank God and security agents for assisting us.’’
