The lawmaker representing Osun South senatorial district, Senator Francis Fadahunsi, has said that the high insecurity in the country is retaliation against poor governance and corruption, especially after the president had ignored the outcry of the Youths during the nationwide #ENDSARS protest.
Speaking to Sunday PUNCH in Abuja, the senator posited that Nigeria’s problem started when the state rose up against its own citizens with repressive laws.
He noted that more importantly, the youths no longer saw a tomorrow as the elite class has continued to siphon the wealth of the nation and repatriate them abroad leaving the country in shambles and in a state of hopelessness.
The former customs boss said it looked like Nigeria got her independence too easily and was unprepared for it as the country has always been a victim of bad governance and nepotism, especially since the military took over the state.
Fadahunsi said, “We got our independence in the early 60s. Everybody was happy and automatically we had to go through leaders to get our independence, unfortunately, we didn’t suffer to get our independence as other countries did. Our independence was too rapid for a nation to grow.
“The ruling class stole money from our country and used it to develop other countries. When you look at Dubai, half of it is owned by Nigerians; the same practice is what we exhibit in Ghana, London, India and we have even moved to Turkey.
“Rather than develop the country, build industries and factories to provide employment, we take our money out of the country and develop another man’s land and the wealth is being rotated among very few Nigerians.”
He added that the youths are angry and that is why they engage in crime, saying this is an impending danger that might soon be visited on the elite.
The senator explained, “It is this injustice that has made the youths carry arms against the elite- political, economical and even the social elite, including the clergy. That is why you see the kidnapping of bishops here and there. They know that the elite have suffocated the economic growth of the county because most of them have treasures abroad but not in Nigeria.
